Statement

Most of these images are taken from my Photography AS and A Level coursework. I have also included a few images that I have captured outside my school work when out and about.
The coursework pictures are symbolic; I like my images to be more than just a pretty picture. I planned each photo shoot around prescribed work, firstly choosing a theme or word and then trying to represent these ideas in the captured images. For example image 5 (Escape), the girl escapes from reality under the water which is a barrier protecting her from the world. Image 7 is from a course project based on ‘Light’. The lights represent the intimate feelings and emotions of the couple.
The photographs I have captured in my free time were not planned, they were taken spontaneously. In image 8 I took the rare opportunity to capture a traffic free central London. The sweep of Regent Street, the red double decker bus and the fashionista in the foreground striding over the word ‘look’ I think sums up quintessential London.
On a personal level I enjoy sports, in particular football and swimming. I also enjoy travelling (especially large cities) and find discovering new places exciting and rewarding. I am very interested in all aspects of the fashion industry in particular fashion photography. Although I hope to pursue this aspect of photography in my studies I look forward to exploring all areas of the subject. During your open day it was mentioned that students from other courses were encouraged to collaborate and exchange ideas which appeals to me. I feel that after studying photography for two years at A level, I would now like to immerse myself more thoroughly in the subject and feel that your department, facilities and Manchester itself has a lot to offer.
